What's New in J-Say 20!
Welcome to the upgrade document for J-Say version 20!
As is the case with previous upgrades, this is the time of year where we ensure J-Say is working with the latest release of JAWS and for those who want new features, we bring those in a further update early the following year.
We’ve not only done this but we had additional challenges as always this year.
First, the entire access to Microsoft Outlook for JAWS 2022 has been refactored to ensure it is more responsive and that it is of a good standard for Microsoft Office updates moving forward. Much time has been spent ensuring that the J-Say access is consistent as would be expected.
Second, we have needed to ensure that J-Say is fully compatible with the Microsoft Windows11 operating system.
We are glad to say that all the functionality is in place and the documentation has been updated accordingly.
There have also been quite a number of bug fixes and improvements as follows:
When the command Microphone Off is spoken, the microphone status is now communicated to the Braille display. This is essential for people training users over JAWS Tandem.
The command, Confirm That, should now set focus to the document when it is opened within File Explorer.
The command, Get File, has been added from within File Explorer. This should allow the correct file to be located. Due to the type of control Microsoft now uses within File Explorer, it is not possible to speak the file name to be moved to. Speak the Get File command, dictate part of a file name to move to and say Confirm That to move to it.
The following voice commands are available for the new JAWS Audio Splitter.
JAWS Left
Routes JAWS speech to the left channel of a headset and regular audio to the right.
JAWS Right
Routes JAWS speech to the right channel of a headset and regular audio to the left.
JAWS Restore
Restores JAWS to both channels of a headset.
The JAWS scripts for the Weather App should now be in line with our Leasey product so as to provide identical functionality.
With the weather app, and also searches such as those for Ebay and Amazon, rather than JAWS automatically detecting the regional Windows language this is now based upon the option available in the J-Say configuration Wizard.
This can be found under “Set Region”.
J-Say contains fully updated scripts for the Zoom conferencing software.
We are very committed to providing access to Microsoft Teams for J-Say users. Most of this work is now complete, however there are some technical difficulties to overcome. We are hopeful in being able to provide full support and documentation for J-Say 20 users and Teams in the very early new year if not sooner. Implementing it at this stage would have meant holding back the initial J-Say release and there are many people who are requesting the initial version.
This version of J-Say should be installed as if it was a new product, so please consult the Installation Guide if required for details. You should install it into your chosen version of JAWS when prompted, for example, version 2022.
Update to Dragon NaturallySpeaking V15.3 if you do not already have it installed.
